We're delighted to announce that Nick Harkaway, John le Carré's fourth son, is travelling to Penzance in November to give the second John le Carré Memorial Lecture.
Organised by the Morrab Library to honour the memory of John le Carré, who lived near Penzance and was a great supporter of the Morrab, the lecture will take place at the Acorn Theatre on Sunday 16th November at 6.30pm.
Nick Harkaway, whose real name is Nicholas Cornwell, was born in Cornwall and spent much of his early years in West Penwith. His latest book, Karla's Choice, is set in the years between le Carré's The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and features le Carré's most famous character, George Smiley. Mick Herron, award-winning author who delivered the first Le Carré Memorial Lecture in 2024, said: 'Karla's Choice is a note-perfect tribute to le Carré that feels fresh and new, and yet fits seamlessly into the world of Smiley's Circus in its heyday.' Harkaway is currently working on a sequel to Karla's Choice.
Nick has titled his lecture 'Living with my Father and Writing into his World'.
